on Cam Girl by Elliot Wake (FKA Leah Reader).

Oh Elliot Wake. Check out my previous review of Unteachable  if you’ve never read anything by him. And then read Black Iris that left me so speechless I couldn’t even review. Enjoy!

Synopsis:

23430483

Vada Bergen is broke, the black sheep of her family, and moving a thousand miles away from home for grad school, but she’s got the two things she loves most: her art and her best friend—and sometimes more—Ellis Carraway. Ellis and Vada have a friendship so consuming it’s hard to tell where one girl ends and the other begins. It’s intense. It’s a little codependent. And nothing can tear them apart.

Until an accident on an icy winter road changes everything.

Vada is left deeply scarred, both emotionally and physically. Her once-promising art career is cut short. And Ellis pulls away, unwilling to talk about that night. Everything Vada loved is gone.

She’s got nothing left to lose.

So when she meets some smooth-talking entrepreneurs who offer to set her up as a cam girl, she can’t say no. All Vada has to do is spend a couple hours each night stripping on webcam, and the “tips” come pouring in.

It’s just a kinky escape from reality until a client gets serious. “Blue” is mysterious, alluring, and more interested in Vada’s life than her body. Online, they chat intimately. Blue helps her heal. And he pays well, but he wants her all to himself. No more cam shows. It’s an easy decision: she’s starting to fall for him. But the steamier it gets, the more she craves the real man behind the keyboard. So Vada pops the question:

Can we meet IRL?

Blue agrees, on one condition. A condition that brings back a ghost from her past. Now Vada must confront the devastating secrets she’s been running from—those of others, and those she’s been keeping from herself…

Review:

How can I POSSIBLY review Cam Girl? If it was up to me, I would create extra stars on GR because this book deserves them all. You need to read this book whoever you are. This book is a MUST.

Recently, I’ve just went through a rough patch of bad books (the last good one was Black Iris also by Elliot Wake LOL) and Cam Girl was just perfect. It had the amazingly colourful writing, gritty storyline and flawed characters. OMG and even disabled representation and people of colour!!!!! Thank you Elliot Wake. So what’s not to love?

Cam Girl had the ultimate mysteries that kept you wondering throughout this book (just check my status updates!). The most important parts of the mysteries however wasn’t who or what but how and why. The book uncovered piece by piece and at the it came together in a most beautiful way. Not gonna lie – I shed some tears. Everything just made sense.

So why do I think you should read this book? It deals with internalised homophobia. This book brought up some questions that I didn’t even know I had – that’s why it’s going on close-to-my-heart-shelf. Beside that Cam Girl dealt with stuff like non-binary. Fluidity. Masculinity. Femininity. It makes you think. But don’t think it’s like an encyclopedia of queerness. Vada, the main character, brings you on journey of self-discovery (in the non-cheesiest way possible) and while she is flawed and you want to shake her sometimes, you can’t help but root and sympathise with her. Cam Girl is full of kickass, interesting characters like Ellis (Vada’s BFF and maybe more?) and Frankie (Vada’s badass cam boss). However the most exciting thing for me was seeing characters from Black Iris and finding out how they are connected to Cam Girl characters!

Basically, read this book. It’s much better than my review because how can you review something so uniquely beautiful? So many beautiful quotes. Truly.

giphy (1)

P.S. It pisses me off when something like this can get 1* on GR. Tbh, some reasons I could understands – this book might not be for everyone. But seriously though, I saw a review that said Cam Girl was over the top with portraying homophobia and it was not a thing because gay people at their high school were popular. Uhm…………. Well what do you have to say about Orlando shooting?

P.P.S. Follow Elliot Wake on social media so we can fangirl together over his coolness and hotness.

OMG, Kai’s book. If you haven’t read Corrupt go read it right now!!!!

Title: Hideaway

Series: Devil’s Night Series

Genre: Erotic Suspense

Author: Penelope Douglas

Release Date: TBD – 2017

Synopsis:
COMING in 2017, HIDEAWAY is the second installment in the Devil’s Night Series! If you’ve read CORRUPT, this is Kai’s story.

Banks

You don’t even see me, do you, Kai Mori? No one does.

I’m the kid in the back, the one everyone dismisses, the no-life street punk with dirty finger nails and ripped jeans.

But I’m quiet, and I do my job. I can hang tough and no one does me any favors. I’ve always been on my own.

But then I see you…

Your perfect black suits. Your clean hands. The way you charge into the room, not afraid of the man I work for, and all of a sudden, I feel different.

Like maybe I want to know what you’re like with a woman.

As quickly as the urge comes, though, it disappears. You see, my boss has an agenda. He’s decided to put me in your path, but what he doesn’t realize is, I have plans of my own. A score to settle.

And you won’t know who I really am until it’s too late.

So sit tight. I’m coming to you.

Kai

You’re wrong. I’ve seen you before.

You’re the girl who looks like a fourteen year old boy and pretends everyone around her is public enemy #1. Yeah, I remember you.

Thunder Bay. Devil’s Night. Four years ago.

But the thing was…when your hat fell off that night, you looked nothing like a boy. And when I put my hands on you, you didn’t feel like one, either.

Now, after all this time, you’re in Meridian City, and while I don’t know who you are or want you want, I can’t wait to find out.

So come on. Door’s unlocked.

Just be warned, though…Devil’s Night is coming again, and I’m not alone this time.

My friends like to play, too.

Note from the Author: HIDEAWAY still has no definite release date. Erotic suspense takes longer for me to write, and while I hate to keep anyone waiting, I know you’d rather have a good book than a quick one. Bear with me. Getting this book to you is a priority. xoxo.

Sexy young couple on black background, horizontal Crimson Cove – Excerpt

Your secrets are your own, he finally said, a little of his confidence dimmed, but his resolve stronger than ever.

Good, I thought. He’ll need it.

They are.

One step forward and Bane stared down at me. Then why do I get the feeling that what’s behind that wall isn’t just for you?

Beyond us, I sensed the weight of the lines trying to breech across the safeguard Bane had placed inside me. He sensed it too, even nodded toward it when I looked at him, expecting confirmation. But he wanted an answer, didn’t seem to care that his spell had worked on me.

Don’t go poking, Bane. Not all secrets need telling.Bane was only a foot away from me, his mind likely lingering around the confusion of that day, ten years ago, and the heat he thought he’d imagined. But it had been real. Hell, it was still so damn real and even with him tempering the lines from me, Bane seemed to know it too.

A warning, he started looking as though he wasn’t sure if he wanted me or wanted to be angry with me. I may not be able to have complete awareness of your thoughts, but I cantell what direction they’re heading toward.

Meaning?

Meaning if I piss you off, I’m gonna know. I shook my head, not caring if Bane knew how often he pissed me off. Meaning that if I do something you like, he moved his gaze down my body, then back up, Well, I’ll know just how much you like what I do.

And if someone else does something I like? He grunted, but remained silent. I mean, if say, one of those primal, alpha shifters do something I really, really like…͟

I’ll damn well know. The clip of his voice was a warning I took to heart.

I see.

There was little time left now for us to squabble or argue over what I kept from him so when I turned away, needing the distance, and he grabbed my arm, stopping me, and the shock was quick and, despite knowing him as I did, unexpected. That daydream…͟ He pressed his lips together. Felt damn real.

My eyes kept steady on my wrist in his grip, as though on their own, they’d decided looking at Bane wouldn’t be smart. Why are you touching me again? Finally able to control myself, I looked up. The spell is over.

Is it?

There was something new, something strange to how Bane pulled me in. The lines weren’t calling me, insisting that I take him, claim him once again. They were, in fact, nothing more than a quiet whisper I could barely make out, begging now instead of insisting. The sensation had no bite, not as it did before Bane’s spell, but there was still a heat between us, that constant energy that no block could keep from us. We were drawn to each other even without the lines’ interference.

Bane…͟ He inched closer and I held my breath as that pull—our pull—between us drew us closer. What am I thinking now?

He growled, rushing toward my mouth, warming it with just a brush of his lips. The same damn thing I am. He gripped my face between his fingers and kissed me hard, scorching against my mouth like he wanted to claim it. God, how I wish he would, and just that thought made that low, deep groan in Bane’s throat transform into a growl of pleasure.

The air around us dropped, the temperatures cooling the wind, bringing brittle leaves and small twigs from the trees around us. Nothing slipped into my thoughts as we came closer, as I forgot that I wasn’t supposed to touch Bane, that he belonged to someone else, that he was meant for something else in which I played no part. But just for that moment, I wanted to take him. I wanted his touch and taste all over me.

At the thought, Bane broke away, his hot, hurried breath fanning down my nose as he rested his forehead against mine. This spell was an insanely bad idea.

Why? Fingers fisted in his collar, he moved when I pulled him toward me, too eager, too anxious to keep from touching him.

God, Jani, because now I know you’ve been thinking the same thing I have since the second I walked into your apartment.

But I knew, I knew that it had all started for us far longer than a few days before.

Bane…͟ Tell him no, I thought. Remind him who he is, who you are. But even thinking it was enough to settle him.

I don’t think I much care, he stopped me, answering my unspoken question about what would be or what should be. God help me. I don’t fucking care about any of it.

Like a flame igniting, like the rush of decision that is never given much thought, a decision that is more instinct than logic, we moved away from ourselves, from the people we were always supposed to be. There was no duty, no honor, no distinctions to be maintained, no expectations that need to be protected. We’d come this close before, the near making of something new, something forbidden, but this time I gave no thought to what would happen if I let Bane forget that I was not for him.

Just one flashing moment where we pulled against each other, where his touch felt like liquid fire on my skin, where my mouth against his throat made that huge man shudder at the feel of it.

I don’t care either.

It was all it took. Providence, destiny, the twist of some life altering event set in motion by the lines, by the gods, by whatever it was that bent our wills, directed our paths down the roads we took. My declaration, my small lie that I truly didn’t care, was enough to pick apart the moment that might keep us from it. It was enough to ricochet into something that could never be unmade.

That’s when the screaming started.

In the quiet din of darkness, with Bane holding me, devouring my mouth, insisting my body bend this way and that, a scream rent through the moment and torn it to pieces, followed by another, and another.

Review

I am usually afraid of paranormal romances, but this one was a great surprise. When I first opened the book, I prayed that it is not going to be similar to Twilight. It was much much better!

Bane is arrogant, no surprise there, with his great looks, power and money.  Janiver (I love this name) is tough, a bit broken, yet strong. I admire my strong female characters! The story of Jani and Bane intrigued me right from the beginning, their love story was a mystery that I needed to solve. And it was worth it, this was a great all-nighter.

giphy

What about the magic? The magic was definitely thought through, with little details about tattoo and spells, but it did occasionally get confusing. I thought this world was fun and could be explored more in another book maybe? 😉

Overall, I enjoyed this book full of romance, mystery and magic. I was wrecking my mind the whole time to solve the main mysteries, but even I couldn’t guess it – I pride myself with good detective skills, LOL. Definitely grab this book and if you haven’t started reading in 2016, this could be a great way to start!

Synopsis

Erika

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Michael

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

Unprotected.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

I fell back to my feet and crept through my apartment as I listened to the pounding that had now become a steady attack. My feet followed the sound, stepping absently closer to it, and I finally pressed my ear against the wall leading to my hallway, my heart racing as the vibrations touched my skin.

Resting my cheek against the surface, I swallowed the tight lump in my throat as the thumping against the wall grew faster and faster.

There was someone over there. In the empty apartment.

Holding up my phone, I dialed the office downstairs but got no answer. I knew there was a night manager named Simon Something-Or-Other, but I didn’t think many people were on duty at night. He must be away from his desk.

I continued listening, wondering if I could ignore it and just wait until morning to ask the manager about it, but the further down the hall I travelled, the louder it got until I was standing next to the rear entrance.

Opening up the door, I peeked my head into the hallway, holding the heavy steel exit open just enough to inspect.

Glancing to my right, I saw a door just like mine. And then I heard a woman’s high-pitched cry ring out around me, and I started breathing harder.

And then there was another cry. And another, and another, and…

Was she having sex? My mouth fell open as I tried not to laugh.

Oh, my God.

But I thought the place was supposed to be empty.

I stepped out, knife in hand—just in case—and walked quietly down to the other door, glancing up and seeing small security cameras along the wall, probably installed when the apartments were built.

Pressing my ear to the door, I listened, still hearing the thump, thump, thump of something hitting the wall, and the girl’s breathy cries over and over again.

I folded my lips between my teeth, covering my smile with my free hand.

But then the woman cried out. “No! Ah, oh, God! Please!”

And my face fell, hearing the fear in her voice. The short, shrill screams were now different. Panicked and scared, and her cries sounded struggled. My mouth suddenly went dry as I stood there listening.

“Ah!” she cried out again. “No, please stop!”

I backed away from the door, not finding it funny anymore.

But then something hit the door from the other side, making a loud thud, and I scurried backward. “Oh, shit,” I gritted out under my breath.

I shot my head up to the cameras, now wondering if they fed to Security downstairs or to whoever was inside the apartment. Did they know I was out here?

I spun around and dashed for my door, grabbing the handle and trying to twist it.

But it was locked. “Dammit!” I mouthed. Fucking thing must lock automatically.

Another thud hit the door, mere feet away from me—so close—and I darted my eyes over to it, my breathing turning fast and painful.

I pulled on the door handle again, twisting and yanking, but it didn’t budge.

Another thud hit the door, and I jerked upright, dropping the knife.

“Shit.”

I dived down to pick it up, but just then I heard the other door swing open, so I bolted down the stairwell, hiding behind the wall and forgetting about the knife.

Fuck!

Screw this. Whoever was coming out of the vacant apartment was definitely someone I didn’t want to meet. I dashed down flight after flight, a cry lodged in my throat as fear gripped my chest.

A pounding echoed above me, and I spared a quick glance upward, seeing a hand sliding down the railings as whoever it was jumped flights of stairs.

Oh, my God. I raced down, one flight after the other, a drop of sweat gliding down my neck. The pounding was getting closer and closer, my legs about to give out as my exhausted muscles worked as fast as they could. I gasped, seeing the door labeled LOBBY. I yanked it open and burst through, looking behind me once again to see if he—or she—was behind me.

But then I slammed into a wall, and I let out a small cry as hands gripped my upper arms.

I looked up and exhaled a breath, seeing Michael Crist towering over me, his eyes narrowed.

“Michael?” I breathed out, frozen in confusion.

“What the hell are you doing?” He arched a brow and set me back, away from him, and let go of my arm. “It’s after one a.m.”

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. Why was he here?

He stood in front of an elevator, a different one than I had taken this morning, dressed in a black suit, looking like he’d just been at a club or something. A young brunette stood next to him, beautiful in a tight, navy-blue cocktail dress that fell mid-thigh.

I suddenly felt exposed, dressed in my silk sleep shorts and black tank top, my hair hanging about, probably in tangles.

“I…” I looked over my shoulder again, noticing that whoever had followed me down the stairs hadn’t come out the door yet.

I twisted my head back, looking up at Michael. “I heard something up on my floor,” I told him.

And then I shook my head, still confused. “What are you doing here?”

“I live here,” he shot back, and I immediately recognized that ever-present intolerant tone that he always used with me.

“Live here?” I questioned. “I thought you lived in your family’s building.”

He slid a hand into his pocket and cocked his head, looking at me point-blank like I was stupid.

I closed my eyes, expelling a sigh. “Of course,” I breathed out, realization hitting. “Of course. You’re the one who lives on the twenty-second floor.”

WOW! I was left absolutely speechless. This is a must read! While I knew that Corrupt was darker than Fall Away series, or Misconduct for that matter, I was not ready for this hot, gritty, mysterious, empowering, deep story. Penelope Douglas pushed boundaries – in a good way. I’m not gonna lie, there were parts where I thought this was too much for me, but Corrupt was just absolutely amazing.

What I loved the most about this book? The characters and the message of “owning who you are no matter what”. I loved the dynamics of the each Horsemen with Rika. I loved the romance of Michael and Rika. And most of all, I loved Alex and Rika. These women were so empowering, so strong… Especially Alex, who did not apologise for who she is. Own it. I completely identify with this message and found it incredibly powerful. Can I gush anymore? Yes, I can. My favourite quote from the book must be “Toughen up. You’re not a victim and i’m not your saviour.” – Micheal to Rika. Can I just say YAAAAAS and SLAAAAY?!

All of the Corrupt characters were so real, people with pasts, secrets, insecurities – not just one-dimensional puppets. I was always on edge while reading Corrupt, nothing was predictable (especially the steam room, am I right? 😉 )! I could see the hard work, the details that Penelope Douglas put into this book and that’s why I love her.

Do you have any doubts about me giving Corrupt 5 stars? Obviously not, because the message that this book carries is so me and everything I stand for. EMPOWERMENT!

I can’t wait for new Peneope Douglas stories, I am obsessed if that was not clear from before!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 (obviously!)

Would love Kai’s POV/thoughts about Erika and Michael’s relationship if possible, or generally his thoughts about romantic relationships.

You want my thoughts on Michael and Rika’s relationship?

It’s…interesting, isn’t it? 🙂

No, I think they have a bond no one will ever understand but them. And that’s how it should be. Their love, their connection, their power overeach other is something that’s always been there, and I’ve seen Michael with enough girls to know that they don’t even compare to the pedestal he puts her on. She’s his best friend.

Even in the steam room, you could see it. His eyes were on her the entire time.

Not that I wanted them on me. Yeah, no.

But he wanted to see everything that she was feeling. Every emotion that crossed her face. He was living through her.

And now, it’s not me or Will he turns to when he needs to hash something out or on the rare occasion he needs direction. It’s her. It’s her he looks to when he’s making a difficult decision, and it’s her he seeks out when something’s bothering him.

Of course, not every day is sunshine and roses. He’s still a dick from time to time, and she still pushes back, but she’s also the one he trusts the most, and he’s still the one she can’t get enough of.

Parenting will be interesting, I think.

Thank you so much doing this Kai, hopefully we’ll see each other soon! 😉

Synopsis

One lie can change your life.

A web of lies can destroy it.

Neil Ryan was a good Navy SEAL. He was an even better detective, but when an unmarked envelope lands on his desk, long-buried secrets are resurrected and Ryan questions everything he thought he knew about justice, including who killed his mother.

Alex Black is a distraction Ryan doesn’t need—she’s loud, obnoxious and a common thief, but her eyes are haunting, her lips irresistible and Ryan happens to love her filthy mouth.

Alex is also the only one able to help Ryan find the leads he’s missing. She’s the only one who can lead him to the one person who has the answers he seeks, but following her could cost Ryan everything.

Secrets get told, lives get wrecked and in every shadow, the truth is hiding.

Review

Shadows and Lies got me at synopsis! I love strong female characters and Alex Black is certainly one tough cookie. I was So excited to read and it did not disappoint. We get into the mystery part straight away and it made me go for more.

Alex is a very complex character with a lot of bad life experience. When she meets Neil Ryan, she sees him only as a cop (though a pretty hot cop) and doesn’t even consider starting anything with him. I really liked that they didn’t start anything straight away and it simmered enough. Ryan looks a bit like Mr Perfect, but he also has some demons which is why I think they are a perfect match! Look at them (or my version of them):

alex neil ryan1

The suspense and mystery is very well written –  not at all predictable. I was wrecking my head for most of the book to find out the connections. What absolutely frustrated me (in the good way though) was the steamy stuff! Ms Butler is such a tease! I updated my statuses on Goodreads, telling everyone that we are finally getting there, but it was like I jinxed it. Nonetheless, there’s plenty of sparks that will make you fuzzy! 😉

Overall, I really enjoyed this easy read with a mystery and some suspense. And of course romance! I definitely recommend this book and hopefully, you won’t be disappointed.

“I’ve never seen you cruel before. Didn’t know you had it in you, Boy Scout.”

“You know, lady,” there was a hum in my voice I didn’t recognize. Alex had put it there with just the low dip of her gaze, “you got all these ideas that you know me. You don’t.”

“Ditto.”

Her eyes moved with the shake of my head, following the slow nod, the moment becoming something tactile, obvious as the heating air between our bodies that dampened our skin. Two looks, two held breaths and something had shifted. Hell, who was I kidding? It had started, brewing, way back, the second I grabbed her arm, stopping her from taking that wallet. It simmered when she snuck onto my balcony asking for my help. Now it crackled—that attraction, the symmetry in the breath that mingled between her mouth and mine.

“Alex?” It was only her name falling from my mouth that moved her gaze off my lips, a small glance that was all the answer she’d give me. “I’m not a fucking Boy Scout.”

There are times when you can’t think. Those are the clustered moments when the energy, the zing of the moment you’re in breaks apart any awareness you have. There is no logic in the swell of sensation or the liquid heat that drives one body closer to another. It’s the feel of warmth, the hope of touch that pulls you in no matter what your brain tries to make you understand about right and wrong, friend or foe. I wasn’t supposed to touch Alex Black. I wasn’t supposed to see her as anything but a mission. I was supposed to find her stalker and keep her safe.

But I had always done what was expected. Seems she had to, as well. The difference was that my expectations fell on the side of justice. Hers ran along the tracks of corruption. Both meant we survived however we could.

I didn’t think about the case or what had brought her to me in the first place, and what kept her coming back to me. I reached for her because I knew that’s what we both wanted. I touched her because she let me and once I had her against my chest, felt the smooth brush of her fingers on my neck, sensation shattered judgment.

The last sound I heard before I kissed her was the strangle of laughter falling into a moan. Hers, not mine. Alex was a woman—beautiful, sensual, parts that went in and out just like they’re supposed to, but she did not kiss me like any other hesitant, docile woman I’d ever touched.

She touched me like she was still hungry, like the meal we had just shared had not filled her. Like nothing would.

Synopsis

To Chuito the apartment was a self-imposed prison for a lifetime of sins. To Alaine, the girl next door, it was salvation from her overbearing, religious father.

He was a devil.
She was an angel.

Two people who should’ve never met, let alone become friends, but it’s not until they give into the dangerous passion that’s been simmering under the surface for five years that things go to hell.

On the outside, Chuito ‘The Slayer’ Garcia is on top of the world. He’s successful. He’s wealthy. He’s a champion MMA fighter surrounded by friends who support him, but they don’t know what he was before he came to Garnet.

A gangster.
A thief.
An addict.
A murderer.

Now his past is churning up demons he can’t ignore. Chuito knows he needs to go back to Miami to end it, but there’s something holding him back, a single temptation he can’t resist before leaving.

Alaine.

She’s the one drug he can’t give up…even if it destroys them both.

“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.” – Chuito Garcia

Review

The Slayer completely exceeded my expectations! I’ll be honest, I had my doubts because I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Viper, but already then I was very intrigued by Chuito and Alaine. I was hooked from the first page and I cannot recommend The Slayer to you enough!

Alaine is a heroine that I would die to be friends with. She’s smart, empowered, independent, beautiful, loving and a little bit bossy – everything I aspire to be. I could understand all her emotions and I was rooting for her right from the beginning. Her chemistry with Chuito was undeniable. Chuito is a troubled soul, a little too stubborn. I definitely felt a strong connection to him and I thought that their journey together was beautiful and exciting.

Alaine Chuito

But the relationships that absolutely stood out for me where the bromances. I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I genuinely laughed out loud during Tino’s and Chuito’s conversation. I don’t want to throw a shade at Alaine, but I truly believe that Tino is Chuito’s soulmate. Their relationship alone is a good enough reason to read this book, it’s been so long since I came across such a strong bonding between friends. Nova – Tino’s brother is also hilarious and his bossy one liners made me crack up several times. GO BUY THIS BOOK AND READ IMMEDIATELY.

Tino

This book had a perfect balance of suspense, action and romance. I couldn’t stop reading. I found myself breathless while following the adventures (or problems, accoring to Chuito) of Miami gangs and Italian mafia. I was so intrigued, maybe I found my inner gangster? 😉 I was a bit disappointed that not everything got resolved, now I need to wait for another 2 books. I have no idea how will I survive!

This was such a gem and I hope that more people will find this book and read it. The Slayer is definitely one of my favourites of 2015, so thank you Ms Moon! Read it and don’t forget to drop a comment!

“It’s a new dance. I don’t know the steps.”

“No steps. You always need rules,” Chuito complained. “Just listen to the music. Close your eyes.”

“They’re closed. I’m listening.”

“Listen to the drums. That’s the part you listen to. Feel it.”

“I’m feeling it.”

“No. Feel it like a heartbeat. Like life. You want it to be a love song, hear the sex in it. Hold me like I hold you.” He jerked her tighter against him as he said it, forcing her breasts to crush against his chest and her dress to ride higher up on her thighs. “Like you need me.”

Alaine sucked in a hard breath and ran her hand up from his shoulder to his neck. The lust made her languid against her will, and when he moved this time, she followed because she didn’t have a choice.

“You’re not supposed to think when you dance. Supposed to just feel. To move the way I tell you to move.” He ran his hand up her back, pushing at the center of it until she arched into him, allowing her head to fall back and forcing her hips tightly against his. “Yeah, like that. Better. I step hard. You step—”

“Soft,” she finished for him.

“That’s right. Follow my hand. Hard, soft, together we fit.” He loosened his hold on her waist, and she stepped back to the beat and then allowed him to pull her into his arms again. They did it a few times, the push and pull, stepping away from the heat and moving back together like they needed each other to keep breathing. Then he pulled her to the right and stepped to the left at the same time. When he used his hold on her waist to force her back, she stepped so that her feet were between his. He fit the two of them back together like a puzzle piece again, with his leg pressed so intimately between her thighs it was making her ache. She arched her hips on instinct, and he hummed in approval. “Bueno, asi mismo. Move them like God made you to move them. That’s good, mami.”

Before now, they’d been dancing salsa, not this hybrid, more sensual form of moving that felt like a guilty pleasure. The beat was the same, the steps were sometimes the same, but this was so much more intimate. A tease. A candy-coated sin that wasn’t a sin because it was labeled dancing instead. Alaine loved it. She let herself be completely soft in his arms, moving where he wanted her to move, because it felt so damn good to let go of everything else and just be with Chuito. All she had to do was feel the drums throbbing and listen to the erotic, lulling sound of a man singing in Spanish about dancing with his woman. All night.

They danced until the sun came up.

She thrives off pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who had infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven he’s usually there to save her from herself.
